To retrieve an image from an image server, such as the DSS ( Digitized Sky Survey ), you need to specify the coordinates (either as a name or world coordinates position) and the desired width and height of the image. Since the return value from an image server request is a FITS format image, it is easiest to return the name of a temporary file containing the image.
The relevant image information can then be taken from the FITS header and the image can be displayed with an image viewer. Other image servers may have different query parameters, such as a patch number or region id. These are specified in the catalog configuration file.
