HST Science Exposures
Contents
Table name: SCIENCE
Records: Dynamic
Description:
This screen accesses a special CADC-created table which contains a summary
of the scientifically interesting observations in the HST database. The
purpose is to create a single screen which can be used to search the
archive efficiently. This table is unique to the CADC and the ST-ECF.
Fields:
Name Type Meaning
proposid I The PEPSI proposal number.
ra_targ D The right ascension of the target. This is
required both in the FIXTARG and EXP relation
because the actual target may differ with the
proposed target.
dec_targ D The declination of the target. This is required
both in the FIXTARG and EXP relation because the
actual target may differ with the proposed target.
dataset_name A The dataset name (IPPPSSOOT) for this observation.
targname A The target(object) name.
exptime D The exposure time in seconds. This is not
redundant with respect to the next two fields.
The exposure duration does not include dead time
for instrument set up, etc; the difference
between the end and start times reflects the
dead time for instrument set up.
sci_category A Science category. Can be any combination
of one or two of the following:
Abbr. Description
AUG Augmentation time proposal
CAL Instrument calibration|proposal
COS COSTAR
DD Director's discretionary
ENG Engineering observation
ERO Early Release Observation|(limited proprietary)
GO General Observer proposal
GST Ground System Test proposal
GTO Garanteed Time Observer
OBS ??
OPD ??
OTA Optical Telescope Assembly
OV Orbital verification (now public)
RPT Repetition of a previous proposal
SAT Science Assesment proposal (now public)
SMC ???
SV Science Verification (limited proprietary period)
WF2 2d generation of the WFPC
expstart D The start time of the exposure.
v3_angle D Position of the v3 axis of the telescope.
ra_v1axis D The right ascension of the v1 axis of the telescope.
dec_v1axis D The declination of the v1 axis of the telescope.
pi_lname A Last name of the Principal Investigator
quality A Quality value for the exposure as
determined (rather arbitrarily) by the
ground crew. The possible values are:
OK, POOR, NOISY, UNKNOWN, NO-COUNTS, SATURATED,
BLANK-IMAGE, WEAK-COUNTS WEAK-SIGNAL, DATA-DROPOUTS,
NOT-DISPLAYED
release_date D The date on which the data becomes public
fgslock A Fine Guidance Sensors locking mode.
instrume A Instrument name (WFPC,FOC,FOS,HRS)
tarkey A List of keywords describing the target
targcat A Scientific category for the target
proposal_title A Title of the Proposal
qualcom A Data quality comments
tardescr A Target description
camera A Camera used for WF/PC observation (WF or PC)
mode A WF/PC mode: FULL (Full integration) or AREA (Area
integration)
smmmode A FOC spectroscopic mode? (INBEAM or NOTUSED)
optcrly A FOC optical Relay (F48 or F96)
shtmode A FOC shutter mode (INBEAM or NOTUSED)
ledcolor A FOC LED Color (a color, blank, NONE or ERROR)
pxformt A FOC image format (NORM or ZOOM)
aperobj A Aperture
filter A Filters used in exposure. This is a string which
includes all of the filters in the optical path.
In searching for a particular filter a string
like *F502N* should be used
minwave F Minimum wavelength of spectral coverage
maxwave F Maximum wavelength of spectral coverage
aper_id A Aperture ID (FOS)
polar_id A Polarizer ID (FOS)
detector A Detector in use (FOS: AMBER or BLUE; HRS: 1 or 2)
obsmode A Observation mode
