Agenda and minutes

1. General information
   • ADASS 2008 meeting - report
     • DG gave a briefing of the ADASS meeting in Quebec early Nov. Beside several interesting discussions with individuals and our poster, there were two more formal meetings.
       • On the Sunday, the North American LAVA groups had a meeting (PG participated in the last part of it) to discuss the the AURA needs for a common approach to data processing. They were interested in keeping a close contact with our OPTICON Network in order to aim for a common concept. In the short term, they would consider providing more IRAF access from Python. E-mail exchange of information between our two groups will be arranged.
       • The BoF on Future software was well visited. After a short introduction by B.Hanisch, J.Kantor gave an overview of the LAVA activities followed by PG doing the same concerning OPTICON N3.6. After these introductions, there were a lively discussion. The general feeling was a broad support for our activities aiming to a more common approach.
   • OPTICON board meeting Nov. 10-11
     • PG summarized the OPTICON Board meeting on Nov. 10-11. It was the final FP6 related meeting and all JRA's and Networks (including ours) gave presentations on their achievements. With respect to FP7, the final contract had not yet been signed but all indications are that it's only a formal matter. It is unlikely that additional funding would be available within the next 2 years but the current allocation to our FP7 Network 9.2 should be secure.
2. Face-to-face meeting
   • Agenda had been revised to allow for a long afternoon-evening session to overlap with US so that DT can join via a video link.
3. Design and interface document
   • Applications framework
     • Only very minor changes had been made. It is still the aim to have a next version in early January.
   • White paper
     • PG had not yet compiled a first version. He will do so by Jan.5 and then send it to MC for the next round. A telecon on 2009-01-07 15:30Z is planned for a first discussion with a possible last phone meeting on 2009-01-15 15:30Z.
4. New developments
   • Prototype projects
     • LP reported that a first release of a Python implementation of SAMP v1 is eminent.
5. Start of OPTICON FP7 network 9.2
   • First phone meeting in Feb. 2009
     • Since OPTICON FP6 reports should be submitted by end Jan. 2009 and PG is away the two last weeks of Jan., a first phone meeting may first be possible in Feb.
   • Participants
     • We will the retain all active members but will ask if anybody on the on36 e-mail list would like to be transfered to the new on92 list.
   • Scope and planning
     • A discussion has been including on the agenda for the Marseilles meeting.
