HST Servicing Mission 4 - Early Public Observation Data Products
On September 9, 2009 NASA held a press conference to highlight Hubble's new instruments and their capabilities and to show that the refurbished instruments are working well and are once again able to provide amazing science data. After the press conference, data from all non-proprietary programs that have executed since the servicing mission are available to the community. In anticipation of a relatively heavy demand, the archives at STScI and the ESO/ST-ECF have pre-staged these data so they are available for download via anonymous ftp. In addition to faster response, the pre-staged data will be of better quality than that immediately available through the pipeline. The most current reference files and other calibration data will not be installed into the pipeline until after the press conference. These data were processed by the instrument teams and use the best available calibrations.

Direct access to proprietary raw and reduced files
As an ESO PI, you can now retrieve online your raw data while they are still protected under their proprietary period. In addition to the raw science files, the corresponding data package will also contain raw and master calibrations, science data products and ancillary information (processing logs, excerpts from the relevant observing logs, etc).

Blu-ray discs for data distribution
The new Blu-ray disc technology will be introduced end of 2009 in the Science Archive Facility. Parallel to the introduction of the Blu-ray discs, the archive will also stop offering CDs as archive data distribution medium. Therefore, archive users anticipating large data requests and Principal Investigators (PIs) expecting significant data deliveries from their observing programmes are advised to make sure that they have available Blu-ray disc readers.
