HST Servicing Mission 4 - Early Public Observation Data Products

On September 9, 2009 NASA held a press conference to highlight Hubble's new instruments and their capabilities and to show that the refurbished instruments are working well and are once again able to provide amazing science data. The Early Release Observations were acquired and used to demonstrate the instruments' capabilities. With the press release these data are now public and available for use by the community. Other data have been released for public use at the time of the press conference. These data include the Early Release Science (ERS) data, and some Treasury program data.

In anticipation of a relatively heavy demand, the archives at STScI and the ST-ECF have pre-staged these data so they are available for download via anonymous ftp. In addition to faster response, the pre-staged data will be of better quality than that immediately available through the pipeline. The most current reference files and other calibration data will not be installed into the pipeline until after the press conference. These data were processed by the instrument teams and use the best available calibrations.

In the table below, "combined products" are generally drizzled and mosaiced data that were created for the press-release images. The pipeline products are those products that would be generated by the regular OTFR pipeline, although for WFC3 and COS, the products were generated by the instrument teams. We have included the bias files that were used for these products. Please read the associated README files for more information. The final column gives access to the proposal information where details of filters and exposure times are available.

More fully processed data products from the WFC3 ERS team, similar to those products available for the ERO data above, will be made available in the near future. See preliminary web page for a description of the ERS project and plans for distributing products. Users of the curent datasets should be aware of several known issues (e.g., a ~ 2 arcmin offset in the positions, unknown photometric zeropoints, etc)
