GSC-II at the ST-ECF
This document describes the ST-ECF setup of the GSC-II object
extraction pipeline. A more complete description of the GSC-II project is available.
The ST-ECF rôle in the GSC-II Project
The basic agreement between the various partners of the project is that ESA via its ST-ECF group located
in the European Southern Observatory
participates in the following aspects of the project:
Extract the objects out of about 50\% of the GSC-II scanned
plates
Financially contribute to the GSPC software development;
Financially contribute to the Guide Star Catalog II software
development
The resource implications are the following
A processing pipeline consisting of a number of computers, peripherals and software systems
has been acquired and put in place.
Two Quality control astronomers have
been hired.
Money was made available to the Observatory of Torino for the
above-mentionned software development effort.
Project progress meter
To allow for an easy follow-up of the progress of the extraction
pipeline at the ST-ECF, a progress meter looking up a database of
processed plates has been setup. The link below provides a complete
list of all the plates processed by the ST-ECF.
